Yes, most full-size charter buses have plenty of luggage space both underneath the bus and inside above the seats. On a standard 50–56 passenger charter bus, there are multiple large storage bays (approximately 440–595 cubic feet) under the bus for big suitcases and gear, plus overhead compartments (approximately 117 cubic feet) inside the cabin for smaller bags and carry-on items.
As a general rule, a full-size charter bus can handle one large suitcase per person underneath and one small bag per person inside. So each passenger can bring a checked-style bag that goes in the undercarriage bays, and a backpack or small carry-on that goes in the overhead racks above their seat.
If you know your group has a lot of bulky items (like large instrument cases, sports equipment, or large suitcases), just tell us that up front so we can make sure the bus you get has enough storage for all your belongings.
One important thing to keep in mind is that you cannot access the luggage stored underneath while the bus is moving. Anything you might need during the ride — medications, chargers, valuables, snacks, jackets, headphones — should go in your smaller carry-on that stays with you in the cabin. The undercarriage space is best for items you won’t need until you arrive or stop.
Overhead compartments inside the bus are better suited for soft-sided bags and backpacks than hard, wheeled carry-ons. The space above the seats is limited, so smaller, flexible bags fit better and are easier for people to lift in and out without holding up the aisle.
If you’re traveling in a smaller vehicle, like a minibus or sprinter-style shuttle, there may be little or no under-bus storage. These vehicles sometimes have a rear luggage area (trunk space) and smaller overhead racks, which means you’ll have less space for large suitcases and big gear. In that case, your group may need to pack lighter or use a larger vehicle.
